The D-Link Wireless 3G Mobile Router comes with a built in Cardbus slot into which you insert your 3G notebook adaptor and away you go. The router also has four 10/100 Ethernet ports and two USB ports so that you can rig up an ordinary mobile phone to act as the modem instead.
Obviously this router is aimed squarely at the more serious users of wireless broadband services. It would also be very nice if someone saw fit to rig a few of these up on public transport. However, unless 3G connectivity spreads itself a little wider, this albeit clever idea is probably only going to have limited potential at the moment because it seems quite unlikely you’ll find many places with no access to ordinary broadband and somehow yet covered by 3G.
This innovative gadget doesn’t have a price or release date yet but is currently on show at The Wireless Event currently taking place in London’s Olympia.

European mobile messaging market to reach €12.1bn in 2010
The mobile messaging market in Western Europe - including SMS, MMS, and MIM - will be worth more than €12.1bn in 2010, according to a report from market advisory firm IDC. Within MMS, simple services such as MMS postcards to new ways of sharing media such as MMS online photo albums could be of high value to users. IDC claims that operators are not currently doing enough to promote MMS messaging. SMS generates the greatest amount of end-user spending, and this will continue throughout the forecast period. The situation is quite different regarding MMS, for which usage is relatively unpredictable. During the forecast period, usage does increase, but users have not realised the value it can bring to them.

Mobile music tries ring tone spin-offs
Labels are now preparing different types of music clips they hope consumers will buy to personalize other mobile phone features.
"There's a lot of potential to provide great music personalization beyond the ring tone," says one major-label source, who asked not to be identified, citing sensitivities of ongoing negotiations with wireless operators.
Within a matter of weeks, several wireless operators are expected to introduce musical "alert tones"--a snippet of a song lasting between two and five seconds, that users can assign to play when they receive incoming text messages and voice mail, similar to a ring tone.
Sony BMG offers a series of spoken-word alert tones from such artists as Anthony Hamilton and Cassidy, available on all major wireless carriers. Company sources say they will expand the selection to clips of actual songs as well once U.S. wireless operators request them. Sources say Universal Music Group has converted "hundreds" of tracks into alert tones, including Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," 50 Cent's "Candy Shop" and "In Da Club" and Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl." Universal, the world's biggest record company, also is creating original, made-for-mobile alerts tones by "key artists."

Sony Ericksson Launching New Mobile Phones
All new models will be available in shops during the third quarter of 2006, expanding the line-up of models with which the world's No. 5 phone maker will battle with its main rivals in the important fourth quarter when sales peak.
"The launches will be spread through the third quarter. Having phones in the market is very important for Q4 sales. We've announced more phones than last year. There's now something for everyone in our portfolio," said Steve Walker, head of product marketing.
So far this year, the Japanese-Swedish joint venture has unveiled more than 20 new models. It introduced 30 models in all of last year.
Over the last 16 months it has adopted the popular Walkman music and Cybershot camera brands from Sony for high-end music and camera phones, but it also announced its first low cost model in February.
The W710 Walkman includes a motion sensor and fitness software programmes to keep track of physical excercise while listening to music from the radio or stored on the phone's memory cards.
A strap and special earphones are designed for wearing it during a work-out. It will be priced between 200 and 300 euros before operator subsidies and local taxes.
"Consumers told us that one of the most popular times to listen to music is when excercising. We wanted to make sure consumers only need to carry one device instead of two or even three: a mobile phone, an MP3 player and a step counter," Walker said.
The W850 Walkman slider model connects to third generation mobile phone networks for fast music downloads. New software makes it easier to navigate through thousands of songs and find names of tracks. It can also record straight from the radio.
It will cost more than 300 euros before subsidies and taxes.
